Lego vintage Black
Knights set number 6085, Black Monarch’s Castle, was produced in 1988 and
contains 665 pieces (as per Peeron.com web site), which is inclusive of 12 mini
figures, 12 mini figure helmets of differing designs, 1 mini figure cape, 11
mini figure helmet plumes, 4 horses, 2 horse saddles, 2 horse caparisons with
incorporated saddle, 10 triangular shields with blue dragon pattern, 7 short broadswords,
10 solid color flags, 1 flag with blue dragon pattern, 7 lances, 4 battle axes,
3 spears, 4 bows with arrow filled quivers, 1 barrel, 13 solid black wall
panels with a window, 2 black wall panels with a window and stone pattern, 9 solid
black corner panels, 1 black corner panel with a stone pattern, one 16 x 32
baseplate and two 16 x 16 baseplates. The set was purchased
new by the seller and, with the exception of one missing small yellow helmet
plume and the substitution of one black horse for one brown horse, is 100%
complete. Due to the substitution of a black horse, a black 1 x 2 brick and a black 1 x 2 plate were added to the set for use when the horse is unsaddled. The set photos are of a set
that I previously sold and that is why in the set photos you see two brown horses,
one black and one white horse rather than the two black horses, one brown and
one white horse that are included with the set being offered for sale. The green baseplate discoloration
seen in some of the photos is due to light refraction rather than actual
discoloration. There is no discoloration
of the green baseplates in the set being offered for sale. Includes 24 colored laser jet printed sheets
of Lego’s building instructions for the set. Many of the set’s
pieces show wear from extensive play, primarily in the form of scuffs,
scratches and nicks and the tops of some studs have a light brown stain. A number of the set’s pieces show some
discoloration from sun exposure, but this exposure has not significantly
altered the gray or black color of the pieces. One half of one of the side clips on the red
caparison has been broken off and will no longer hold a lance or other weaponry. The set provides for
the construction of a large castle with towers, battlements, drawbridge, gated
entry and prisoner holding cell. The
large number of mini figures that come with this set provide ample manpower for
manning the castle’s battlements. The
drawbridge can be raised and lowered by rotation of the wheel that operates the
drawbridge rope. The gate behind the
drawbridge can be raised by pulling up the rope attached to the gate and
lowered by releasing the same rope.
The door to the prisoner holding cell can be opened and closed. The back and side
portions of the castle that are constructed on the set’s two 16 x 16 base
plates are connected by hinges to the sides of the castle that are constructed
on the 16 x 32 base plate. Where the
two 16 x 16 base plates come together to form the back wall of the castle, a
torsion pin holds the two sections together.
When freed from the torsion pin, the two castle sections built on the 16
x 16 base plates can be rotated outward for different castle configurations. There
are no extra pieces included with the set.
The set is shipped disassembled.
